Hide-E-Hole Ferrets

Indie came in with Ivan and should stay with his buddy. Indie is sweet and playful, and does not nip. His family was moving and couldn’t take him. Indie always looks like he’s laughing, and he likes to play with people. He likes to follow you around and get underfoot, too. He enjoys running through the tubes and chasing his brother.

Ivan is a bit of a wild man, racing from one end of the room to the other. He’s quite mischievous and loves to get into everything. He likes to chase his brother, Indie, in tubes and hide small toys. Ivan plays for hours, and loves to see what you’re doing. He’s a beautiful albino with very white fur.

Sneaky came into the shelter because her previous owner didn’t have time to spend with her. In fact, they knew very little about what she liked to play with or how she behaved. Since she’s come to the shelter, we’ve discovered she’s a sweet, playful little girl that does not bite at all. She likes other ferrets and is currently playing in a large group of young ferrets. She is currently living with Scampi and Farrah. She’s happy and playful and her favorite game seems to be chasing other ferrets through tubes.

Kye came in with Peanut, and it would be nice if they could stay together. Kye is a striking sable boy with a “reverse blaze” on his head. He has a black diamond-shaped stripe where some ferrets have white stripes. He’s very active and playful, never nips and is basically a very happy boy. He loves wrestling with and chasing his brother. He’s also the last one to go to sleep and the first to get into things. He and his brother were surrendered because his mom was bedridden with COPD. She didn’t want to give them up, but was unable to care for herself, much less her ferrets.

Peanut came in with his brother, Kye. Peanut is definitely the troublemaker but in an innocent, gleeful way. He’s a sweet and playful boy who loves people, but starts fights with most other ferrets. Peanut should stay with Kye. Peanut is probably deaf, since he doesn’t even twitch when we run the vacuum, but it doesn’t affect him at all. He manages to keep up with his brother just fine. He’s interested in people and likes to be right there by your feet. Peanut also likes to do some interesting gymnastics, rolling and twisting all by himself. He seems to be wrestling with himself! He and his brother were surrendered because his mom was bedridden with COPD. She didn’t want to give them up, but was unable to care for herself, much less her ferrets.

Athena was turned in to the local Humane Society because the owner’s fiance was allergic. She is a very lively and playful ferret, if somewhat easily frightened. At first, she would have nothing to do with other ferrets here at the shelter, but lately she’s been happily playing with some of the other ferrets. She might get along with your ferret, but we won’t know until we try. Currently in foster care.

Phred was found, along with Faye, in a cage in an abandoned house. The house had a number of cats and at least one dog at some point, and the place was filthy with excrement. The cage was so full of poop it was piled halfway up to the next level. Someone was apparently feeding them, but hadn’t been there in a while. When they were rescued, they had no food or water. They were flea-ridden and emaciated. It took three baths to get most of the dirt off their fur, and while ferrets don’t usually like baths, these guys were desperate to get clean. They actually looked grateful and didn’t try to get out of the water.

They immediately went into foster care, since they were a little older and debilitated, and we didn’t want to expose them to the other ferrets at the shelter. Here is a statement about his behavior from the foster mom:

Phred is one ferret who is always good for a cuddle, but hold on to him! He’ll swing his head around every which way while trusting that you won’t drop him. Is he checking out the action, or does he just not get dizzy hanging upside-down? He is deaf as a post, but that doesn’t slow him down a bit as he frolics with his cage-mate or goes about his ferret chores. He’s very attentive and always interested in what you’re doing.

Nikita was thrown out of a moving car on Route 19 in Washington, PA. Luckily, someone saw it and picked her up before she was killed by a car. She’s a happy, sturdy girl, bigger than most pet store ferrets. In fact, she is not one of the typical Marshall Farms or Path Valley ferrets because she has not been descented. This does NOT affect her smell. All this means is that if she is injured, sick or very frightened, she can make a little stink that lasts about 10 minutes. Ferrets who are not neutered smell bad. Nikita HAS been spayed, so she does not smell bad.

She seems to be deaf or at least hard of hearing … not that something silly like that slows her down. She’s a power weasel! She plays for hours and joyfully explores anything and everything. When this little girl plays, she plays hard. She’s a fast little thing, darting around, stopping to look at you and dashing off. She’s a lot of fun.

Ollie Oops was found wandering outside. A neighbor took him in when she found him trying to get into a neighbor’s outdoor cage full of cats. He was probably put out of his house because his previous owners did not want to pay for a vet. He has adrenal disease, but is doing well. He’s been given a Deslorelan implant and a Lupron shot and is currently on a couple medications. Since the Lupron shot, his fur has gotten silky soft and shows some signs of growing in. Maybe. He has a completely pink “rat tail” and looks an awful lot like a possum! He’s a big, sturdy boy with excellent weight. Right now he’s a little funny-looking with that bald spot on top of his head, but all those kisses he gives more than makes up for his odd appearance. He is a laid-back, sweet little guy who gets along with most ferrets. As a single, he would make an exceptionally sweet companion, since he’s forever asking to be picked up (so he can kiss you).

We know people don’t generally want to take on a ferret that is already older with a health issue, but if you pass up Ollie, you will miss out on a sweet, loving little guy who wants nothing more than to be cuddled and kissed. There aren’t many ferrets quite this sweet out there.
